I refuse to write another post about the importance of self-care. It’s already been done and I’m way past that point in being a self-care fan. If you’re lurking in the shadows of social media or the Internet and found this post, you already get it too, we’re kindred spirits.
Self-care is the foundation for my daily routine. If I don’t prioritize it, I go a little batty(ier), my energy drops, and my mindset is almost unmanageable and definitely intolerable. That is not to say that I am lounging around eating bon-bons all day, while fanned with a large feather and calling that self-care. It is to say that I choose to take some time every day for myself. Unapologetically, satisfyingly selfish self-care time. More specifically…
I nap in the name of self-care.
I drink a glass of water between Zoom calls in the spirit of self-care.
Similarly, I twirl around the house between calls as a reminder that the office chair and I are not one object.
Later today I will turn off my phone (gasp!) under the guise of self-care.
All things, big and small, are designed to nurture my mindset. This allows me to focus better, play more, and live my most extraordinary life. For those who are seeking more ways to celebrate (“practice” just doesn’t sound important enough) self-care, I present to you the following list.
8 Self-Care Tips To Shift Your Mindset
- Get more sleep – 7 or more hours a night is what Mayo Clinic recommends for adults. However you know your body more than anyone else, how much sleep do you need to be extraordinary?
- Learn something new – Learning something new, a new skill, new hobby, new language opens you up to change. Regardless of what you learn, being in learning and feeding your brain is self-care.
- Set a daily “self-care” reminder (and call it something cheesy) – Set an alarm on your phone for when you’re most likely to take an action, then remind yourself to do something in the name of “self-care.” Keep it simple, have fun with it!
- Take a technology break – Turn off the devices, the phones, the computers, everything. I know I may have lost some people with this tip, but even for 5 minutes is remarkable for the mind. How you spend this time is up to you…
- Self-affirmations every day for 33 days – Positive self-affirmations have been proven to increase confidence and build a growth mindset. Sign up for 33 Days of Extraordinary Energy Affirmations mailing list to receive daily affirmations to your email.
- Move your body – Moving your body physically moves your mindset. Go for a hike, dance it out, bend yourself into a pretzel with yoga…even the smallest bit of movement is amazing for your body, mind, and spirit.
- Breathe – Even taking one or two breaths counts as self-care. Mindfully choosing to breathe is a gift to yourself. Take some time to mindfully breathe to re-energize your body and mind.
- Spend more time with people worth your time – Lastly, this tip has two tips in one; the first being to spend more time with people and the second is to make sure you’re spending the time with people who are worth your time.
Self-Care Is Essential For Your Sanity
So, instead of running yourself ragged, how are you practicing self-care today?
